Electronics Test & Repair Technician

Job Description

In this position you will be joining a team of technicians. An electronics test & repair technician must be able to fix complex circuitry problems found by other techs. Gamry's high precision/high speed analog and digital circuits are quite challenging. You must be able to use DVMs, signal generators, and oscilloscopes and understand engineering theory, units and terminology. Analog debugging skills at both the system and component level and surface mount soldering/desoldering skills are essential. You must have knowledge of op amps, A/D and D/A converters, transistor circuits, and switching power supplies. Experience should be in a production test environment – ideally with an instrumentation firm. You will be involved in repair. You must communicate well with engineering, manufacturing management, and the rest of the manufacturing test staff.

Gamry Instruments in Warminster, PA, is a manufacturer of electrochemical instrumentation and accessories. Founded in 1989, we develop laboratory equipment used in a variety of industries including corrosion and materials testing, batteries and power conversion, catalysis, biological monitoring, sensors, and basic research.

Summary

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, system focused and a team player. Being an electronics test & repair technician at Gamry involves varied work. You will test and repair Gamry Instruments products using Windows based PCs running our custom test software. You need to be skilled in dealing with multi-layer PCB’s and surface mount soldering/desoldering, often under a microscope. You also need to be comfortable running semi-automated test procedures on a computer. When a test fails, the test technician should be able to diagnose simple problems like unsoldered components, missing or incorrect components, or bad test connections.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and testing environment. This position requires good technical English, and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Work will be at the Gamry offices in Warminster, PA, given the focus on developmental hardware.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • 3- 5 years of computer operations, high speed analog, switching power supplies experience
  • Soldering/desoldering experience preferred
  • Circuit board experience
  • Scientific instrumentation experience preferred
