Abstract
The electrochemical reduction of nitrous oxide and oxygen has been studied on cone-shaped electrodes of La1-xSrxFeO3-δ perovskites in an all solid state cell, using cyclic voltammetry. It was shown that the activity of the La1-xSrxFeO3-δ perovskites for the electrochemical reduction of nitrous oxide mainly depends on the amount of Fe(III) and oxide ion vacancies. The activity of the La1-xSrxFeO3-δ perovskites towards the electrochemical reduction of nitrous oxide is much lower than the activity of the La1-xSrxFeO3-δ perovskites towards the electrochemical reduction of oxygen, making the possibility of electrochemically reducing nitrous oxide selectively in an exhaust gas containing excess oxygen on this type of materials very doubtful.
