Abstract

The effect of NRB on the corrosion behavior of X80 pipeline steel in the soil extract solution of Shenyang was studied using polarization curve, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, weight-loss tests and scanning electron microscope. The results show that NRB accelerates the corrosion rate of steel and promotes the formation of pitting holes on the surface of steel. XPS results show that the types of corrosion products are unchanged. Moreover, electrochemical measurements can effectively evaluate the corrosion behavior of pipeline steel affected by NRB in real time. The data in this work support that NRB can be responsible for pipeline perforation and leakage.
