Abstract

The poor tribological performances of titanium alloy as bone implants have important influence on its implantation failure. In this study, hydroxyapatite (HA) coating and Fe3O4 covered with HA (Fe3O4/HA) coating were respectively prepared on the Ti6Al4V alloy surface by chemical self-assembly. The tribological properties under dry and SBF (Simulated Body Fluid) lubrications and anticorrosion properties in SBF solution were systematically measured. The corresponding mechanisms were discussed. These results show that the Fe3O4/HA coating has more positive effect on reducing the friction coefficient and wear rates than HA coating, might due to the transformation of sliding friction into rolling friction. Furthermore, the enhanced anticorrosion properties from Fe3O4/HA coating were attributed to its shielding effect on the active ions of the solution.
