Electrochemical Noise Software is Gamry’s entry level software package for electrochemical noise testing. It is also an ECM8 Multiplexer compatible electrochemical noise software package. Electrochemical Noise Software includes experimental scripts and analysis macros for ZRA mode, galvanostatic, and potentiostatic noise experiments.

Overview
Electrochemical Noise Software is an inexpensive entry into Electrochemical Noise testing. It lacks the capabilities of the more powerful Electrochemical Signal Analyzer but it does work within Framework and is compatible with Gamry’s ECM8 Multiplexer.
Operating within Framework means that Electrochemical Noise Software scripts can be run at the same time as other (different) experimental scripts when using a multichannel system. The ZRA mode EN120 script is also available in the Sequence Wizard so researchers wanting to set up a sequence of tests that includes electrochemical noise must use this software. Analysis of Electrochemical Noise Software data is performed within the Echem Analyst.
System Requirements
- Gamry PCI4/Series G, Reference, or Interface Family Instrument
- Microsoft® Windows™ XP SP3/Vista/7/8/10 (32-bit or 64-bit)
Experiments
ZRA Mode ECN
Two identical metal samples are used as the test specimens. The ZRA mode of the potentiostat electronically “shorts” these specimens and measures the current flow between them. At the same time, the potential of the specimens is measured versus a reference electrode. The rms noise level of both the detrended current and detrended potential are calculated. The data curve from a ZRA mode test is current noise and potential (voltage) noise versus time.
Multiplexed ZRA Mode ECN
ECM8 Multiplexer compatibility added to the ZRA Mode ECN script.
Potentiostatic Mode ECN
The potentiostat holds a single metal specimen at a constant potential vs a reference electrode. After the block is acquired, the data is "detrended" by subtracting a best fit linear current versus time curve from the measured currents. The rms noise of the detrended current is then calculated and reported as the current noise of this data block. The data curve from a potentiostatic mode test is current noise versus time.
Multiplexed Potentiostatic Mode ECN
ECM8 multiplexer compatibility added to the Potentiostatic Mode ECN script.
Galvanostatic Mode ECN
The galvanostatic mode of the potentiostat holds a single metal specimen at a constant current. After the block is acquired, the data is detrended by subtracting a best fit linear potential versus time curve from the measured potentials. The rms noise of the detrended potential is then calculated and reported as the potential noise of this data block. The data curve from a galvanostatic mode test is potential noise versus time.
